COM 400 Intro post

My name is Christian Clark and I am a Civil Engineering student at WSU with an emphasis in Infrastructure. Some interests I have outside of school are sports, music, cars, and cooking. I am interested in science communication because it will be a critical component in my career and because it is a subject that requires plenty of time to become familiar with. During my COM 400 course at WSU I am looking forward to becoming a better overall communicator. I'm also looking forward to collaborating with my groupmates.


From the first reading, "Jargon as a barrier to effective science communication: Evidence from metacognition" 2 key findings or themes stand out to me. The first one is that jargon should be avoided when material is being presented to publics. The second one is that the use of jargon when communicating to publics can impair information processing and can lead to motivated resistance to persuasion.


From the second reading, "What's next for science communication?" there were 2 key findings/ themes that I think publics should be aware of. The first is that including communication training in science majors for colleges is beneficial for science communication. The second important finding from this article is that we should take advantage of strategic communication tools to make scientific issues more relevant and accessible to the publics,
